An incredible getaway to the Arribes del Duero visiting Zamora, Toro, Salamanca, Ciudad Rodrigo, La Alberca and Peña de Francia. Salamanca is a unique place, a cultural reference with beautiful architecture, and that stands out in any season of the year. It is a small city and easily accessible on foot, with a historic center where the main monuments to see are just a few minutes away from each other. In Salamanca the food is very good, and its pinchos and tapas speak for themselves (it's an expression). The Plaza Mayor is one of the most emblematic monuments in Spain!! Well, perhaps I have gone a little too far, but without a doubt it is the most important thing to visit in Salamanca and a beautiful place. He has even appeared in Forest Whitaker movies!
Ciudad Rodrigo, declared a Historical-Artistic Site, is one of the most beautiful towns in the province of Salamanca in the Community of Castilla y León. One of the monuments that is a must-see in Ciudad Rodrigo is its Cathedral, which appears majestically in one of its squares right at the entrance of the town when you cross the walls. When you visit the Cathedral it is possible to see several of its chapels, the most impressive is the main chapel. But what caught our attention the most was its mysterious cloister that dates back to the 14th century.
La Alberca is a municipality located in the Sierra de Francia, south of the province of Salamanca. His name is of Arabic origin and
means water tank. It is one of the most tourist places in the province due to its unique beauty and characteristic architecture, with narrow streets, balconies and arcades. It was declared a Historic Artistic Site in 1940.
La Peña de Francia, earthly and divine heaven of Salamanca. One of the most representative places in the province of Salamanca is undoubtedly the Peña de Francia, a 1,727 meter high mountain where you can see privileged panoramic views of the surroundings and visit a Sanctuary with an exciting history.
Zamora is a small city but that does not mean it lacks corners that should be known, visited and enjoyed in equal measure. Zamora is one of the great forgotten cities of Spain, however it has no shortage of reasons to be among the most interesting cities in the entire country. Not only in the historical, monumental and cultural sphere, here filling your stomach is a serious matter and as soon as you put your mind to it, you will eat like a king. If you are looking for ideas of things to see and do in Zamora, you are in the right place. Toro, with a historic center capable of transporting you to the Middle Ages and its famous and powerful wines that, according to legend, were the first to reach the New World, this jewel of Castilla y León does not leave you indifferent. Portugal stands out for its small but charming towns around the country. One of these is Miranda Do Douro. It is right on the border between Spain and Portugal. Something that makes the town very special is that in addition to being on the border, it is on the banks of the Duero River. As if that were not enough, one more reason that will make you want to go to Miranda Do Douro is that the food in this town is wonderful. Apart from that, it is very close to the Arribes del Duero, a spectacular canyon that separates Spain from Portugal. The Duero River is traveled by boat using two routes, both highly recommended. A beautiful natural area that we could consider as the Grand Canyon Hispano-Portuguese, saving the distances of course. A canyon 120 kilometers long and 400 meters deep gap that separates Spain from Portugal and that currently forms a beautiful Natural Park that can be explored on foot, by boat or by car.
A unique experience that you will always remember!
